Young Adults
Therapy for Young Adults
Your twenties come with a lot of firsts and very few instructions. Counseling gives you one steady hour to sort through it, by secure video from anywhere in Texas.

The Decade Nobody Hands You a Map For
First jobs, first leases, first real heartbreaks. Friends move to different cities and different stages of life. Family expects you to be fully grown and also to stay exactly the same. Online, everyone seems further ahead. It is a lot to carry, and from the outside it often looks fine.
You might be doing well on paper and still feel flat, anxious or strangely far from your own life. You might be holding something from earlier years that still sets the tone of your days. None of that means you are behind. It means you have not had a good place to look at it yet.
What We Might Work On
Every person's list is different, and you do not need a tidy one to start. Some of the threads we can pull on together:
- Anxiety that shows up as overthinking, overworking or avoiding.
- Depression that hides behind a full calendar.
- Boundaries with parents, partners, roommates and work.
- Old experiences that still steer, explored at your pace.
- Big decisions about work, school, relationships and where to live.
- Loneliness after friends scatter.
How I Work With You
You are in control of your therapeutic process. You decide what we open and when. I bring honest feedback rather than an agenda for your life. I have always been the person friends came to for a straight answer, and I bring that into the room with care.
Our work usually combines cognitive behavioral therapy, which catches the thoughts that loop and tests them against what actually happened, with a solution-focused lens on what you want more of. We name your goals out loud at the start so we can both tell whether we are getting there.

Doing well on paper and feeling okay are two different things, and both deserve attention.
Making Time for It
Sessions are fifty minutes by secure video, so you can meet from home, a parked car or a private room at work. There is no commute and no waiting room. We usually start weekly and space sessions out as things settle. If a week goes sideways, we talk about it openly rather than pretending it did not happen.
Payment is self-pay. No insurer decides how many sessions you get, and no diagnosis is required for a claim. If you want to try for out-of-network reimbursement, I can provide a superbill on request.
When Something Old Is Still Steering
Sometimes the hardest part of your twenties is not the present. It is something from earlier that keeps reaching forward: a home that never felt quite safe, a relationship that wore you down, a loss nobody treated as serious. We do not dig before you are ready. We build stability first and go slowly from there. My page on trauma therapy for young adults explains how that pacing works.
Common Questions
- Do I need a specific problem to start counseling?
- No. “Something feels off” is a perfectly good place to begin. We will sort out what is going on together in the first few sessions, and the free consultation is a low-pressure way to see whether we are a good fit.
- Can I have sessions from work?
- If you have a private space, yes. A parked car or a closed room works. You need a device with a camera, a steady connection, and to be physically in Texas during the session. Scheduling runs through a secure SimplePractice portal.
- Is this different from talking to a friend?
- It is warmer than people expect and more structured than a talk with a friend. I listen closely, ask direct questions and give honest feedback, and we work toward goals you chose. You also never have to worry about how your news lands on me.
- What if I tried counseling before and it did not help?
- That is worth talking about on the free consultation. Sometimes the fit was wrong, or the approach did not match what you needed at the time. I work in a practical, collaborative way, and I will tell you honestly if I think someone else would serve you better.
