Faith, Teens and Young Adults
Christian Counseling for Teens and Young Adults
Growing up with faith can bring big questions: what you actually believe, what to do with doubt, and how to hold it all when home and campus pull in different directions. Those questions are welcome here, but only if you want them in the room.

When Faith Gets Complicated
For a lot of teens and young adults, faith is woven into family, friendships and community. That can be a real source of strength. It can also make hard seasons more complicated: when your doubts feel dangerous to say out loud, when your church and your campus seem to speak different languages, or when you are trying to sort out which beliefs are yours and which you inherited.
None of that means something is wrong with you. Questions are part of growing up, and they deserve an unhurried place to land.
Faith Comes In Only If You Ask
Christian counseling is one specialty among several in my practice, and it is always optional. Tell me you want prayer, scripture or your questions about God in our sessions, and they come in. Prefer to leave faith out? That is just as welcome, and the counseling itself stays the same. You can switch either way at any time without explaining.
For teens, this is the teen's choice. A parent may share the family's faith, but in your sessions you decide whether faith comes in and how much. Christians of every tradition, people of other faiths and people with no faith are all welcome.
What We Might Talk About
Some of the conversations that can fit here, at whatever depth you choose:
- Doubt that feels scary to admit, without anyone treating it as a symptom.
- Feeling torn between your home church and your life on campus.
- Guilt that lingers even after you have prayed about it.
- Questions about calling, purpose and what comes next.
- Forgiveness you have been told you should feel but cannot reach.
- Anxiety or depression that people around you have tried to pray away.

You get to work out what you believe at your own pace, without anyone grading it.
The Clinical Work Underneath
Faith never replaces clinical care in my work. Underneath, this is the same counseling I offer everyone: cognitive behavioral therapy for thoughts that loop, a solution-focused lens on what you want next, and a client-centered stance where you set the agenda. If you are dealing with anxiety or depression, we work on it directly.
I am a licensed counselor, not a pastor or youth minister, so this is counseling rather than spiritual direction. With written consent, a pastor or church community can be part of your care if you want that.
For Teens, and for Parents
A teen's sessions are their own hour. What they share stays private within the legal limits I explain in the first session, and parents still hear from me plainly about what is likely to help at home. My page on therapy for teens in Texas explains how that works.
College students and young adults reach out for themselves. Sessions are fifty minutes by secure video while you are in Texas, which works from a dorm room, a parked car or home. You can read about therapy for college students, or start with a free consultation through Work With Me.
Common Questions
- Will my parents find out if I talk about doubting my faith?
- What you say in sessions stays private, within the legal limits every Texas counselor follows, such as risk of serious harm. With parents, I talk about what is likely to help at home rather than the details of what you share. We can go over exactly how that works on the free consultation.
- Do I have to be a certain kind of Christian?
- No. Christians from any tradition are welcome, and your tradition is respected, whatever it is. You do not have to have it all figured out, and you do not have to agree with your family's version of faith to bring it into the room.
- What if I want to keep faith out completely?
- Then it stays out. Your sessions will be straightforward counseling with no religious content, and nothing about the care or the welcome changes. The page Do I Have to Be Christian to See a Christian Counselor? explains more.
