Therapy for College Students

College hands you independence and a heavy workload in the same week. Online counseling fits into that week, from a dorm room, a parked car or a quiet corner of campus anywhere in Texas.

When the Semester Starts to Slide

It usually slips quietly. A reading you cannot get through, sleep that drifts later every night, a class you stop attending because walking in late feels worse than missing it. Then the group chat goes quiet, and everyone else seems to be having the time of their lives.

Hearing that these are the best years of your life does not help. It can turn a hard semester into a private failure. It is not one. A semester that is not working is information, and counseling is a place to look at it clearly and decide what to change.

What We Can Work On

We start with the week in front of you rather than your whole life story, using cognitive behavioral therapy for the thoughts that loop and a solution-focused lens for what comes next. Common starting points:

  • Anxiety before exams, presentations or the email you have been avoiding.
  • Depression that looks like sleeping through mornings and losing interest in classes you chose.
  • Focus and follow-through, including ADHD that was never assessed or never fit the study advice you got.
  • Homesickness, roommates, friendships and relationships.
  • Burnout from stacking classes, a job and everyone's expectations.
  • Faith questions when home and campus pull in different directions, only if you want that in the room.

Sessions That Fit a Student Schedule

Sessions are fifty minutes by secure video through a SimplePractice portal, so there is no drive and no waiting room. You can meet from your room with headphones on, a reserved study room, or your car between classes.

We usually start weekly, because momentum matters in the middle of a semester, and space sessions out as things settle. Between-session practice is optional and never busywork. You already have enough homework.

A hard semester is information, not a verdict on who you are.

If You Came to Texas for School

I am licensed in Texas, and a counselor can only work with clients who are physically located in a state where they hold a license. If you study at a Texas school, we can meet whenever you are here. If you go home to another state for a break or the summer, sessions pause until you are back in Texas. It is a licensing rule, not a judgment, and we can plan around it ahead of time.

Why This Season Is Familiar to Me

My four children are all in college right now. That gives me a close, current look at what this season asks of a young adult, and of the parents watching from far away. I will not pretend to know your campus, but not much about college life will surprise me.

Payment is self-pay, so no insurer decides how many sessions you get and no diagnosis is required for a claim. Rates and payment has the details on the fee, superbills and cancellations.

Common Questions

Can I do sessions from my dorm room?
Yes. Any private spot works, as long as you are physically in Texas during the session. Headphones help if you have a roommate, and a parked car or a reserved study room can work when your room is not private. Everything runs through a secure portal.
What if I am not sure it is bad enough for counseling?
You do not need to be in crisis to deserve support. If it is affecting your sleep, your classes or the things you used to enjoy, that is reason enough to talk. The free consultation takes about fifteen minutes, and I will tell you honestly whether I think counseling would help.
What happens over winter break or summer?
If you stay in Texas, we can keep meeting. If you travel to another state, sessions pause while you are there, because my license covers clients located in Texas. We can talk ahead of time about spacing sessions around breaks so nothing catches you off guard.
How much does it cost?
I confirm the session fee with you on the free consultation, before anything is scheduled or charged. The practice is self-pay, and a limited number of reduced-fee places are available, so ask on the call. See rates for superbills and the cancellation policy.
