Overwhelmed Mothers

Therapy for Overwhelmed Mothers

You keep everyone fed, scheduled and accounted for, and somewhere along the way you dropped off your own list. Counseling is an hour a week about you, by video from wherever you are in Texas.

The Capable One Gets Tired Too

If you are the one who remembers the forms, the refills, the birthdays and the backup plan, people probably call you organized. Inside, it can feel more like running a machine that never shuts off. The load is invisible precisely because it never drops, and so nobody thinks to ask how you are.

Overwhelm in mothers often does not look like sadness. It can look like snapping at the people you love and then apologizing in your head all day. It can look like resentment you feel guilty for having, or a heavy Sunday-night dread about the week ahead. Those are signals, not character flaws.

What Counseling Can Hold

We look at the whole picture, including the parts that feel too small or too selfish to mention:

  • The mental load: everything you track that nobody else sees.
  • Resentment you are not supposed to feel, said out loud without judgment.
  • Help you have never asked for, and what gets in the way of asking.
  • Anxiety that keeps you scanning for the next problem.
  • Depression that shows up as exhaustion and irritability.
  • Who you are apart from every role you carry.

Proactive Care, Not Crisis Care

It is easy to wait until you hit a wall before asking for support. My approach is proactive, stress-reducing care, so you are not always meeting yourself at the breaking point.

Using cognitive behavioral therapy, we catch the thoughts that keep you overextended, like “If I do not do it, nobody will,” and test them against what actually happens in your house. Then we choose one or two changes that fit your real week rather than an ideal one. Small and testable beats a total overhaul you will abandon by Thursday.

Taking care of yourself is part of taking care of them, not a break from it.

Why Video Sessions Fit a Mother's Week

Telehealth removes the drive, the waiting room and the childcare problem, which can be the difference between going and not going. You can meet from a parked car, a bedroom with the door locked, or the kitchen table after bedtime, as long as you are in Texas and have some privacy.

Sessions are fifty minutes. We usually start weekly and space sessions out as things settle, and you stay in control of the pace.

Signs It Is Time to Reach Out

You do not need to be falling apart to deserve support. It may be time if you feel on edge most days, if small things set off big reactions, if you have stopped doing anything just for yourself, or if you feel numb more often than you feel joy. If that sounds familiar, a free consultation through Work With Me is a low-pressure first step.

From One Mother to Another

I am a mother of four, and all four are in college right now. I will not pretend that makes your life the same as mine. It does mean the chaos, the guilt and the love underneath both will not shock me.

If faith is part of how you carry all of this, it can be part of our work too, only if you ask. My page on Christian counseling for mothers explains how that works.

Common Questions

What if my schedule is unpredictable?
Telehealth helps, since there is no drive to plan around. Scheduling runs through a secure SimplePractice portal, and we can talk about which times are realistic for you on the free consultation, before anything is booked.
Is it selfish to spend an hour on myself?
No. Running on empty does not protect your family; it only postpones the crash. An hour that is yours is not an hour taken from them. If guilt about taking the time keeps coming up, that is something we can work on directly.
Can I come to counseling if I am just exhausted, not depressed?
Yes. You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to deserve support. Exhaustion, irritability and feeling stretched thin are good reasons to talk. Sometimes they turn out to be depression or anxiety, and sometimes they are a load that needs rearranging. We figure that out together.
