Young Parents
Therapy for Young Parents
Becoming a parent while your friends are still figuring out their own lives can feel lonely and enormous at the same time. Counseling gives you a steady place to sort it out, by video from home.

A Transition Nobody Fully Prepares You For
A new baby changes nearly everything at once: your sleep, your schedule, your money, your relationship, your friendships and your sense of who you are. Even when the change is wanted and loved, it asks you to grieve parts of the old life while you build a new one. That combination is exhausting, and people rarely talk about it honestly.
If you became a parent earlier than most of your friends, there is an extra layer. Your group chat is planning a weekend trip while you are timing feedings. You can love your child completely and still miss the freedom you had. Both can be true at once.
What We Can Work On
There is no wrong reason to want support in this season. A few places we might begin:
- The identity shift from “me” to “parent,” and finding room for both.
- Anxiety about doing it right, about money, health or the future.
- Low mood, flatness or irritability that does not lift on better-rested days.
- Strain in your relationship as roles and expectations change.
- Distance from friends who are in a different season of life.
- Pressure or advice from family about how you are raising your child.
How Sessions Work Around a Baby
Sessions are fifty minutes by secure video, so there is no car seat to buckle, no waiting room and no childcare to arrange. You can meet from a quiet room at home while someone else has the baby, or while the baby sleeps, as long as you are physically in Texas.
This is individual counseling, focused on you, whether you are a mother or a father. Paperwork happens beforehand in a secure SimplePractice portal, so the session itself is yours.

You can love this new life completely and still grieve the old one.
How I Help
We start with the week you actually have, not an ideal one. Using a solution-focused approach, we get clear about what you want more of in this season and find the first step that is actually available this week. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps with the thoughts that pile on, like “Everyone else has this figured out” or “I am already failing.”
I will give you honest feedback and practical strategies sized for someone running on broken sleep. Between-session practice is optional and never busywork.
When to Reach Out
You do not have to wait for a crisis. Reach out if low mood or worry has lasted weeks, if you feel numb or disconnected from your baby or your partner, if you are snapping more than you want to, or if you have no one to talk to honestly. If something feels physical or sudden, check in with your doctor too.
The first step is a free consultation, about fifteen minutes by phone or video. Online booking opens shortly, so for now send a note through Work With Me and I will reply with times.
Common Questions
- Do you only work with mothers?
- No. Young fathers carry this transition too, and individual counseling is open to dads as well as moms. Everything happens by secure video, so the logistics are the same either way.
- Is it normal to feel this way if I love being a parent?
- Yes. Love and exhaustion, joy and grief, can all show up in the same day. Mixed feelings about a huge change are human. They do not make you a bad parent, and saying them out loud to someone who will not judge you can ease some of their weight.
- What if I am not sure it is more than tiredness?
- Sleep loss makes everything harder, so it is fair to wonder. If the heaviness, worry or irritability is still there on better days, or it has lasted for weeks, it is worth talking about. The free consultation is a low-pressure way to sort that out, and talking with your doctor is wise too.
- How much does counseling cost?
- The practice is self-pay, and I confirm the session fee with you on the free consultation, before anything is scheduled or charged. If cost is a barrier, ask whether a reduced-fee place is open. Rates and payment explains superbills and the cancellation policy.
