Online Therapy for Austin

Austin keeps changing, and so do the lives of the people in it. Online counseling gives you a steady hour each week, without a drive up or down I-35 to get it.

Living in a City That Keeps Changing

If you have been in Austin a while, you have watched it transform: new towers, new neighbors, rising rents and a skyline that looks different every year. If you moved here recently, you may be building a life from scratch, far from family, in a place where half the people you meet seem to have arrived recently too.

Rapid change can be exciting and unsettling at the same time. It is common to feel unanchored when your city, your rent and your job all seem to shift under you. Those feelings deserve attention, not just a better spreadsheet. Counseling can be a place to sort out what you want your life here to look like.

Tech Work, Layoffs and the Pressure to Keep Up

Austin's tech and startup world brings real opportunity, along with long hours, constant reinvention and the strain of layoffs. Losing a job, or watching colleagues lose theirs, can shake your sense of security and identity, even if you land on your feet.

In counseling, we can work on the anxiety that comes with uncertainty, the burnout that comes with always being on, and the question of who you are when work changes. Stress and burnout work starts with what is actually on your plate this week.

Students on the Forty Acres and Beyond

For students at UT Austin, St. Edward's, Huston-Tillotson or Austin Community College, the pressure can be intense: big classes, competitive majors, high rent and a city full of distractions. If focus is part of the struggle, my work with ADHD can help with structure and follow-through.

Sessions by secure video fit around classes and jobs, from a dorm room, a library study room or a parked car. If you came to Austin from another state, sessions happen while you are here in Texas, and we can plan around breaks. See therapy for college students for more.

When everything around you keeps changing, a steady hour each week can be an anchor.

Session Years and State Work

As the state capital, Austin has its own rhythms. If you work for the state or around the Legislature, session years can mean long days, high stakes and a calendar that swallows everything else. When the pressure peaks, a standing hour that does not require a drive can make it easier to keep showing up for yourself.

Where to Begin

Whatever brought you to Austin, the counseling I offer covers anxiety, depression, life transitions, ADHD, relationships, grief and burnout. We use cognitive behavioral therapy for the thoughts that loop, and a solution-focused lens on the next step that is actually available.

You will not find my office on South Congress or anywhere else; the practice is entirely online, and you need to be in Texas during each session. My page on online therapy anywhere in Texas covers the statewide details, and San Antonio is a short drive south if you split your time.

Common Questions

I just moved to Austin. Is it normal to feel this lonely?
Yes. Moving to a new city, especially one where so many people are also new, can leave you feeling unanchored for a while. Loneliness after a move is part of a life transition, and it is worth talking about rather than waiting it out alone.
Can counseling help after a layoff?
Yes. A layoff can bring up anxiety, grief, shame and big questions about identity and direction. We can work on the immediate stress and on what you want next, one practical step at a time.
Can UT students work with you?
Yes. Any student physically located in Texas can work with me, whether you attend UT Austin, another Austin school or a college elsewhere in the state. Sessions are by secure video, so they fit around classes. If you leave Texas for a break, sessions pause until you return.
Can I work with you if I live in Round Rock, Pflugerville or another suburb?
Yes. Anywhere in Texas works, including the suburbs and small towns around Austin. Sessions are by secure video, so the only requirements are a private space and being physically in Texas at session time.
